About the Add Page Numbers

Add Page Numbers stamps page numbers on a PDF: at the bottom or top, centred or in a corner, as plain numbers or as text such as "Page 1 of 10". Leave out a cover page, start counting from any number, write the label in English or Hindi, and check the live preview before you save. Numbers are placed on the page as it is displayed, so rotated pages are numbered where readers expect, and the rest of the file is left as it was.

PDFs are processed in your browser (pdf-lib, PDF.js and, for passwords, QPDF compiled to WebAssembly), so contracts, invoices and scans never leave your device.

How to use the Add Page Numbers

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box or choose a file.
  2. Choose the position and a format, or Custom text with {n} for the number and {total} for the last number.
  3. Optionally type which pages to number (for example 2- to skip the cover) and the first number.
  4. Check the preview, then click Add page numbers and download the file.

Common mistakes

  • Numbering before the page order is final. Numbers are part of the page once added. Reorder, delete and merge pages first, then number the finished document.
  • Covering an existing footer. Many documents already print something at the bottom centre. Check the preview and choose a corner, the top or a larger margin if the number overlaps it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I skip the cover page?

Type 2- in Pages to number. Page 2 then shows 1; to keep counting from the real page number, set First number to 2.

What does {total} count?

The last number that is printed. Numbering pages 2 to 10 from 1 gives "Page 1 of 9" on page 2 and "Page 9 of 9" on page 10.

Can I add page numbers in Hindi?

Yes. Pick the पृष्ठ 1 format, or choose Custom text and type something like पृष्ठ {n} / {total}. Hindi, Marathi and other Devanagari text is set in Noto Sans Devanagari with its matras and conjuncts joined correctly, and English text in Helvetica; both can share one label. Other scripts, such as Tamil or Bengali, are not supported yet.

Will the numbers cover my content?

They are drawn on top of the page, a margin away from its edge. If a page has text or a footer in that spot, pick another position or a larger margin and check the preview.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The numbers are added by your browser and the file is saved straight to your device.
