About the Add Watermark to PDF

Add Watermark to PDF stamps text such as CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or गोपनीय, or your logo, across the pages of a PDF. Set the font size and colour or the image size, how transparent it is and its angle, then place it in the centre, in a corner or tiled across the whole page. A live preview shows the first watermarked page exactly as it will be saved, and the file never leaves your browser.

PDFs are processed in your browser (pdf-lib, PDF.js and, for passwords, QPDF compiled to WebAssembly), so contracts, invoices and scans never leave your device.

How to use the Add Watermark to PDF

  1. Drop a PDF onto the box or choose a file.
  2. Choose Text and type the words, or Image or logo and choose a PNG or JPG.
  3. Set the position, opacity and rotation; type page numbers to watermark only some pages.
  4. Check the preview, then click Add watermark and download the file.

Common mistakes

  • Treating a watermark as protection. A watermark discourages copying and shows where a file came from, but anyone with a PDF editor can remove it. Do not rely on it to keep a document secret.
  • Making it too strong. At full opacity a large diagonal watermark hides the text under it. Start at 20 to 30% and check the preview.

How do I add a logo watermark to a PDF?

Choose Image or logo, pick your logo file and set its size as a share of the page width. A PNG with a transparent background looks best, because only the logo itself is drawn; the opacity setting fades it further.

Which opacity should I use?

20 to 30% is easy to read through and still clearly visible, which suits CONFIDENTIAL or DRAFT across the middle. Use 50% or more for a small mark in a corner.

Can the text underneath still be selected?

Yes. The watermark is added on top of each page and the original text is left in place, so it can still be searched and copied.

Can I write the watermark in Hindi?

Yes. Type it in Devanagari, for example गोपनीय or प्रतिलिपि, or mix it with English, such as CONFIDENTIAL गोपनीय. Hindi is set in Noto Sans Devanagari Bold with matras and conjuncts joined correctly. For other scripts, such as Tamil or Bengali, make a PNG of the text and use it as an image watermark.

No. The watermark is drawn by your browser and the file is saved straight to your device.
