Hash Generator
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes and HMACs of any text.
About the Hash Generator
The Hash Generator calculates MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 digests and HMACs of any text in your browser, which is useful for checksums, signatures and debugging API authentication.
Everything is generated in your browser; nothing you enter is uploaded, and anything random comes from a cryptographically secure source.
How to use the Hash Generator
- Type or paste the text.
- Switch on HMAC and enter the secret key if you need a keyed hash.
- Copy the digest for the algorithm you need.
Frequently asked questions
Should I store passwords as SHA-256?
No. Use a slow password hashing algorithm such as Argon2, scrypt or bcrypt. Fast hashes like SHA-256 are designed for integrity checks.
Are MD5 and SHA-1 still safe?
Not for security, because collisions can be created. They are fine for non-security checksums.
