About the Image to Word

Image to Word reads the text in photos, screenshots and scanned PDFs with OCR and saves it as an editable Word document. Each picture can be placed above its text for reference, and several images become one document with a heading per file. Recognition runs in your browser with Tesseract, in English, Hindi and 20 more languages.

Images are processed in your browser with its built-in codecs, so your photos and screenshots are never uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert a JPG to an editable Word document?

Drop the JPG here, wait a few seconds for the text to appear, fix anything OCR misread, then click Download .docx. Open the file in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice to edit it.

Does it keep the formatting of the image?

OCR recovers the words and line breaks, not fonts, colours or table borders. Each image can be included above its text so you can compare, and paragraphs are separated where the image has blank lines.

Are my images uploaded?

No. OCR runs in your browser and the Word file is created on your device. The language data downloads once and is cached for next time.

Can it read handwriting?

Neat block capitals often work; joined handwriting usually does not. Tesseract is trained on printed text.
